YouTube Music is switching from bi-monthly to quarterly updates regarding new features. “Don’t worry,” the company assures users, “the updates will keep rolling out!” Expectedly, this change aligns with YouTube’s overall product update strategy. While this first quarterly recap spans November 2023 through February 2024, the next recap will be in June covering feature releases from March through May 2024.

Back in January, the service introduced genre-focused shelves tailored to your listening preferences. Expect to see up to two of these shelves, offering a curated selection of tracks, albums, and playlists within your favorite genres. For a wider exploration, the “More” option takes you straight to the genre’s dedicated page within the Explore section.

Other key highlights include the dynamic “now playing” indicator that visually pulses along with the music – a sleek new graphic added at the end of last year. There’s also the updated Samples shelf, with YouTube Music noting that listeners appreciate the compact thumbnails maximizing space on the home feed.

That said, below is the full list of all new YouTube Music features released between November 2023 and March 2024.

  • Improvements to the now playing indicator on mobile (released on Nov 27)
  • 2023 Recap with personalized cover generated by AI (released on Nov 30)
  • Updated share panel on iOS (released on Dec 7)
  • Gradient background on Android player page (released on Dec 8)
  • New Music Videos & Quick Picks shelves on Smart TVs & Gaming Consoles (released on Dec 13)
  • New Samples shelf on home (released on Dec 13)

  • New 16×9 thumbnails on Smart TVs & Gaming Consoles (released on Feb 14)

The next batch of new YouTube Music features will begin rolling out between now and June 2024.

Expect insightful articles and explorations of the ever-evolving world of Android and Google products coupled with occasional rants on the Nest smart home ecosystem.
