Viewers across the world can now stream ‘7 SEEDS’ season 2 with English subtitles and dubs on Netflix. The OTT giant just released the second season for its original anime series ‘7 SEEDS’.

The announcement came on Netflix Anime Japan’s official Twitter handle along with fresh new trailer for the show. The new season also has 12 episodes (numbered 13 to 24) each 24 mins long and picks up right after where season 1 episode 12 left off.

7 SEEDS is an original Netflix anime produced by Gonzo and directed by Yukio Takahashi, which premiered in 2018. It is based on the post-apocalyptic manga of the same name by sci-fi author Yumi Tamura. The anime will be simuldubbed just like season 1.

7 SEEDS is set in a world when Earth is hit by a meteorite leading to the Japanese government preserving genes along with ‘seeds’ betting on humanity’s survival. It follows five groups of youngsters in their quest for survival after they are awoken from a cryonic frozen state.

Author Tamura says that 7 Seeds was inspired by news reports that near-Earth object (89959) 2002 NT7 would potentially collide with Earth.

The manga was critically acclaimed and still enjoys a comfortable readership. The Netflix adaptation was well-received among fans, who waited two whole years for the second part to come out.

The anime project is part of Netflix’s broader plan to establish Japanese animation series and movies as a mainstream entertainment source for Western audiences, to get over other OTT services like Disney+ and Apple TV etc. Catch our in-depth analysis of content war over Japanese anime and manga here.
