The Browser Company says that the Arc Search app on iOS is “not going away.” The dedicated AI features will be removed later this month, but it’ll keep working as a browser.

You can take a look at the official post from the Arc account on X below. It mentions that AI features will stop working on November 23, along with Arc desktop sync. However, what they said after that is the interesting part: “We plan to integrate it more deeply with Dia.”

The post goes on to point users to an FAQ link, which unfortunately doesn’t elaborate much. It mentions information we already know. Browse for Me and other AI features won’t work from November 23; you can no longer sign in or sync; a “lite” version of the browser will continue to work. Unfortunately for Android users, this lite version hasn’t been planned, so the browser will stop working entirely on December 22.

Adena Nadler, who works in Product at The Browser Company, offered a similar response to someone on X. She mentioned that the company plans to integrate Arc Search more deeply into Dia, which could mean that the company is planning to update Arc Search to Dia Search.

Direct response from Product.

Instead of starting from scratch to build Dia Search, there’s a chance that The Browser Company could issue an update to the existing Arc Search app. Following the update, it “could” transition to Dia Search. Either that, or the name will continue to be “Arc Search,” but it will be integrated more deeply with Dia to power some AI features.

Either way, the official statements are rather confusing. The official documentation on Arc’s “goodbye” page mentions that the Android version is completely going away, and says nothing about the integration of Dia into the iOS app.

PiunikaWeb’s Take

Despite the company saying Arc Search is “not going away,” we must be cautious not to take it at face value. In the past, The Browser Company said that they’re “not trying to discontinue Arc.” However, less than 2 years after the statement was made, the decision to fully sunset Arc was announced. Claiming that Arc Search will later be “integrated with Dia” is also rather vague, and isn’t a particularly reassuring commitment. Android users are stuck waiting for an update, since the last date is approaching too. We’re expecting a clearer statement about the fate of Arc Search down the line, and whether it’ll actually transition into a different app, or just integrate with Dia. We would recommend not treating it as confirmed information until we hear more from the company.
