Astian, the company behind various privacy-focused open-source tools, has announced that the next Midori Browser update for Android will deliver expanded customization options, improved VPN support, and additional features.

This was directly announced through the official @grupoastian account on X. The post also includes accompanying screenshots and highlights the upcoming changes.

For those unaware, Astian runs the Midori browser, and all the company’s products share a common design language and core principles. Zero telemetry by default, no mandatory accounts for core features, and fully open-source code. For now, the lineup of products includes the Midori browser, AstianGO private search, and an in-house no-logs VPN, and more.

Midori is a free, lightweight web browser that’s available on both desktop (Windows, macOS, Linux) and Android. iOS support is currently in progress. It’s based on Gecko, and prioritizes low resource use, speed, and privacy.

On Android, it already offers personalization such as navigation bar positioning, color themes, and icons. The upcoming update will improve it even further.

There’s “more customization,” and the post’s screenshots show what’s coming. Below is a screenshot of the current version of the browser.

As you can see, it doesn’t have the option for “Toolbar shortcut” or the other gestures shown in the post from Midori.

Furthermore, this update is also going to add a VPN feature. Tapping the three-dot menu on Android will reveal the option.

While desktop versions already include access to MidoriVPN, the Android version will now get it soon.
