Aside browser’s latest updates refine profiles, tabs, sync, and everyday reliability

While other AI-browser makers like Perplexity and The Browser Company have slowed down meaningful development to a crawl, the folks at Aside have been keeping busy. With a recent round of updates, the team has patched several bugs, added new features, and improved existing ones.

Profiles are where I noticed the biggest difference. When you create a new profile now, it starts off as a local one and skips the whole onboarding routine. You just sign in later from the New Tab Page whenever you actually want to.

You’ll still need to sign in to use AI through the Aside Provider on that profile, but I like not being dragged through setup every single time. You can also give your profile a custom name now, and Aside shows that instead of your account name.

Switching between profiles feels better too. Aside says it fixed the lag and crashes that popped up when you swipe left or right to change profiles, and that switching now uses fewer system resources. They had even shared a short video highlighting the change before it went live.

Apart from this, there’s a new Tab Switcher, so you hold Ctrl and tap Tab to flick through your open tabs. Pinned tabs now sync over the cloud, and a sync bug that was losing the right tab titles, URLs, and icons got fixed. A handful of crashes tied to dragging tabs and closing sessions are gone too.

The reliability side is what keeps me coming back. Back when I first tried Aside, my main gripe was that it felt heavy. That flipped after a recent performance and Chromium update, and I’ve been using it a ton since. Performance has picked up quite a bit. It’s still not perfect, and I catch the odd stutter here and there, but if they keep shipping at this pace, I won’t be shocked if it’s smoother again in a few weeks.

Quick confession. I’ve been on Aside so much lately that I actually hit my usage limits, which I didn’t see coming this soon. So if anyone over there is reading this and is feeling generous, I’d gladly take a Pro plan promo.
