Three browsers based on the Firefox engine (Mullvad, Zen, and Tor) recently picked up updates, with various bug fixes and security patches.

For the Mullvad browser, v15.0.18 has rolled out, and you can view an image of the changelog below. Detailed information of the changes was posted on GitHub.

The key changes (simplified) are:

  1. NoScript update: It’s a security tool that controls which scripts can run on websites. This update basically improves protection against threats.
  2. uBlock Origin update: The ad-blocker has been updated to the latest version, bringing better performance and bug fixes.
  3. Overall security and stability improvements: All of the fixes from Firefox ESR 140 have been added to the browser now.
  4. Additional technical/system updates: Updated some security keys for developers (boklm and morgan), helping keep the download/update process more secure.

It’s not just the Mullvad browser that has picked up an update. Zen, an Arc-like browser based on the Firefox engine, also received various updates on July 15.  You can view the changelog below.

I’ve checked for this update myself, and sure enough, v1.21.7b began downloading immediately. The main changes are:

  1. The update fixes a Promo banner bug, which appeared in the “Essentials” section.
  2. For Linux users, an issue with the icons being misaligned in the Spaces options was fixed.
  3. Sometimes, Spaces used to switch unexpectedly when dragging a tab to another monitor. This has been fixed as well.
  4. Bugs with tab order have been fixed.
  5. On macOS, a browser freeze that used to occur when using the file open/save dialog has been patched as well.
  6. There were various other security improvements, and the browser has been updated to Firefox 152.0.6.

It’s worth noting that the Twilight version of Zen (basically the Nightly version) also got an update, and the change has been described in the image below.

Finally, the Tor browser also got various security improvements with a recent update. The improvements are largely just security-focused, and there are no new features.
