Brave has officially confirmed that the company isn’t giving up on MV2 browser extensions. The four supported MV2 extensions (uBlock Origin, NoScript, AdGuard, and uMatrix) will still work on the browser.
A post on Reddit pointed out that the MV2 extensions seem to have vanished from Settings on the latest version of the browser at the time.

Replying to the post directly, Brave confirmed that the Brave-hosted extensions will continue to be supported, and an upcoming stable update will fix the issues.

Note: This version with working MV2 extensions is already live at the time of writing, so you can update your browser. The version mentioned in the Reddit post is no longer the latest.
A GitHub post further explains that the four supported extensions will eventually be taken off the Chrome Web Store, so Brave is hosting those on the company’s backend instead. Navigating to brave://settings/extensions/v2 (type this directly in the address bar) will let you view all of the Brave-hosted extensions.

They function as separate web extensions that have no link to the Chrome Web Store, and the UI also calls them “Brave-hosted” extensions.

Earlier, we covered a story where the browser lost support for MV2 extensions in the latest beta. What seems to have happened here: The issue with these extensions in the beta version carried over to the stable release. We also pointed out how the extensions were fully functional in the Canary version.
Now, the latest stable version continues to support MV2. To confirm, I’ve visited the extensions page (via brave://settings/extensions/v2), and all of the four extensions do appear.

While the company has committed to supporting these older extensions as long as it’s reasonable, MV2 is still on the way out. Their time is limited, so it’s recommended to explore alternatives.
In other Brave news, Claude Cowork is now much better at web research on the browser. We covered that here.
