Firefox rolled out v152.0.2 on 23rd June, and it’s a tiny update that focuses on bug fixes and optimization. There were no new features with this release, but we’d recommend updating to the latest version for better security and fewer bugs.

The main fixes this time are centered around various issues with languages throughout the browser. Information about this update was posted officially on the Firefox release notes page, and you can take a look at the changelog below.

The first bug they’ve patched: For some languages, the headings under Settings didn’t show the translated name before. Instead, they used to display placeholder text such as {pane-downloads-title2}. This is Bug 2047983 on Bugzilla.

Since the issue used to occur with the Ukrainian language, I’ve set the browser’s language to that. Sure enough, it displays the proper translated headings in Settings now instead of the placeholder text.

Earlier, New Tab content didn’t match the browser’s display language after it was changed. (Bug 2046945). To check for the fix, I’ve set the language to something random, and the contents of the New Tab did change appropriately, so this bug no longer occurs. You can take a look at the image below.

Another regression that was fixed: some MP4 video files didn’t play correctly; that’s now solved.

Finally, this update also fixes an issue where some websites would slow down if they were performing too many encryption/decryption operations at once. According to the changelog, this should no longer occur.

While this update wasn’t feature-heavy, Mozilla is indeed working on a lot of new features for the 153 release. For example, it packs a huge upgrade for Linux (more on that here).
