Brave users can soon create an account or log in to one directly in the browser.
Information about the feature surfaced in a Reddit post on r/brave_browser, where a new prompt offering account creation/log-in was spotted. Reportedly, the Brave accounts feature is available on the latest Nightly build (v1.93.85).

However, I checked on the latest Nightly version, and I was unable to find it on macOS, implying that it hasn’t reached all testers yet. I didn’t get any pop-up while browsing, so it might take time.
While Brave hasn’t officially posted about the feature yet, an employee at Brave, u/fmarier, provided direct clarifications to various queries in the same Reddit thread as well.
He said that Brave accounts will be integrated with sync soon, and that users will have a choice between both methods. He also confirmed that the existing sync method without accounts (based on QR codes) will remain fully supported.

It was further emphasized that Brave will not force email addresses just to sync your data.

The rollout begins with Email Aliases, allowing users to generate disposable forwarding addresses that protect their primary inboxes from spam. Sync integration will follow, and it’s “next up.”

The current sync option gets the job done, but can prove unreliable occasionally. Doing it with an account will likely deliver a smoother experience, though it’s still optional if you don’t want it.

Most people welcomed the change for its convenience. Features like account recovery and 2FA could probably arrive later based on community feedback. There’s no information about them at the moment.

It’s worth noting that Brave hasn’t provided a specific timeline for when this feature will reach the stable version of the browser, and since it’s still on Nightly, it could take a while.
In other Brave news, the company is soon adding workspaces to its browser to organize your web browsing better. You can read about that here.
