Zen will soon let you share your Boost customizations with friends

Zen Browser is preparing to rollout a new feature that lets users share their Boosts with friends and the community. It’s currently in development.

An official announcement posted in the r/zen_browser subreddit offers a sneak peek of Boost sharing. The post says “Keep an eye out for updates,” implying that it’s not yet live.

Boosts were introduced last month as a way to personalize websites. It draws inspiration from Arc’s “Customize Page” feature, which is also called “Boosts.”

Users can soon send their personalized Boost configurations, such as custom colors, fonts, zapped elements, and auto dark mode settings, to others. Recipients can import and apply these tweaks instantly, basically making individual customizations easier to share. It’s a good step forward in collaborative theming, since you don’t have to start from scratch.

It also gives you an option to try on the Boost first, and you can switch back from the Library if you don’t like it. The creator of the specific Boost is also displayed, along with what seems like a preview.

To check whether the feature is live, I’ve updated Zen to the latest version (v1.20.1b), but it hasn’t been released yet.

The Boosts feature does show up. I can change the color theme, fonts, dark mode settings, “zap away” unnecessary elements, or even add custom code. However, I was unable to find any options to share the customizations that I created. You can access Boosts via the site control icon in the URL bar.

I’ve checked the official release notes for any mention of the feature, but the latest version mostly includes bug fixes; you can type “New Boost” in the URL bar to create a new boost for the current website, instead of accessing it through the address bar controls.
