People have finally started receiving the Personas feature on the CHAI app, and they’re customizable.
The rollout comes months after community demand, following an announcement from CHAI’s founder in late April. You can find some reports on Reddit from u/withered_bonnie69420, u/Lonely_Tie_3177, and u/TiaraOwens under the r/ChaiApp subreddit.

Personas allow users to create detailed custom profiles. People can define specific names, appearances, personalities, and preferences. Once set, these details are automatically applied across chats. This improves role-playing immersion and fixes issues like bots forgetting character traits.

To locate the feature, you’ll need to go to your Profile section. Under your Profile Photo, you’ll find an option that says “Personas.”

It appears to be a gradual rollout, since some users report needing to restart the app to get the feature. I’ve installed the app and checked for Personas myself, but it’s unavailable under the profile section, suggesting that not everyone would get the feature at once.

Logging off and then signing back in was suggested as a workaround on Reddit comments, but that doesn’t seem to help everyone.
Despite some speculation about the feature being restricted to Premium/Ultra subscriptions, that’s not really the case. The original announcement from the founder says “all users in the next four weeks,” with no mention of exclusivity to paying users. Moreover, some Premium and Ultra users appear to be left out as well, so it might take more time.

User reactions so far are positive, with people sharing screenshots, calling it “game-changing.” However, it appears to be buggy at the moment. Some people report hitting chat limits before even starting a chat, and word limits are still annoying. Other commentary centered around wanting chat history back or feature requests, such as group chats.

Overall, the Personas feature is a welcome addition to the app and is a good improvement over the “Advanced Bot Creation” feature.
