X seems to have quietly pushed out a mobile layout change over the weekend that replaces the standard profile “Media” tab with a dedicated “Videos” tab. This has left many users wondering how to check photos that they or others have posted.
People who rely on the tab to quickly look through their uploaded pictures suddenly found nothing but video clips. One Reddit user asked whether X had removed the photos tab, while someone else noted that the app forces an automatic update upon launch, even if you try to roll back to an older version.
Elon Musk has already been trying to pivot towards video content on X, but cutting off quick access to pictures is a strange decision, if it’s intended.
The rollout looks highly fragmented for now. In my testing, I can still see the Media tab on Android, whereas on iOS, we have a separate Videos tab and Photos tab. X has not officially clarified if this sudden layout shift is the final plan or just a buggy test.
Naturally, users are letting their frustration show. People are tagging support accounts to complain about losing easy access to their memories. You can see early reactions from users like KURA and Miyuu, who both saw their image collections vanish from direct view on the mobile app.
You can find more user reports here: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6.
Some people have already dug up an awkward workaround. If you tap the search icon on a profile, you can still find a hidden media filter that displays photos, but early testers report a catch. For some reason, the app won’t let you scroll very far back through the historical media before cutting off the timeline entirely.
This redesign follows another major profile shuffle from a few weeks ago. X recently started rolling out a dedicated History tab to consolidate bookmarks, long videos, articles, and likes into a single space.
For now, users will have to navigate the confusing search tools to find their images, or wait to see if X decides to give photos their own home. As usual, we’ll post an update if and when there’s something to share.
