Update 20/05/25 – 03:57 pm (IST): Recent reports highlight both promising acquisition news as well as some concerning internal developments.

On the acquisition front, Kick CEO Eddie recently confirmed on stream that Kick is in active talks with StreamElements about a potential buyout, stating they want to find an opportunity to “keep StreamElements around” as a pillar of the community.

Despite these positive discussions, internal turbulence appears to be ongoing. Streaming reporter Zach Bussey noted on May 19 that several StreamElements employees have recently announced their resignations. Additionally, other staff members have reportedly left the official Discord server and scrubbed references to the company from their social media profiles.

Update 16/05/25 – 10:15 am (IST): The situation surrounding StreamElements continues to develop as more industry figures weigh in. Streaming reporter Zach Bussey has provided a detailed video breakdown of the current landscape (embedded below). Bussey also noted that, according to the original staffer’s message, pending payments owed to creators should still be fulfilled, though slight delays may occur.

Meanwhile, Rumble CEO Chris Pavlovski publicly stated on X that he had sent a DM to StreamElements, fueling community speculation about a potential acquisition or partnership.

Creators should also remain vigilant regarding their security. Inkrom Studios issued a warning that scammers are actively using the StreamElements rumors to impersonate them on Discord and target clients.

Update 15/05/25 – 03:20 pm (IST): StreamElements has now acknowledged the situation, saying it is in “positive discussions with potential acquirers” and is working to find the best path forward for creators, customers, and its team. The company added that it will share more updates soon and said it will do everything it can to keep supporting the creator community.

Original article published on May 15, 2026, follows:

StreamElements may be shutting down. At least that’s the rumor that has everyone talking, and it spread fast enough that it’s worth laying out what’s actually known and what isn’t.

The story apparently started in an unofficial StreamElements Sponsorship Discord, where a Creator Success Manager at the company told members the platform was closing. Screenshots circulated quickly, and by the time most people saw them, no one could confirm whether the original claim was real or secondhand.

Streaming industry reporter Zach Bussey said he spent around six hours trying to verify things before posting publicly. He couldn’t get a second source to back up the shutdown claim. Still, he didn’t dismiss it either.

His concern came from a few things piling up. According to Bussey, StreamElements has been slow-paying creators lately, may have been quietly removed from Twitch’s third-party sponsorship offers, has been asking users to donate to keep the service free, and has gone through multiple rounds of layoffs over the past couple of years.

Of course, none of this actually proves anything, but it does raise valid suspicions.

Meanwhile, creators like KobiLAX have publicly tagged StreamElements, asking when sponsors would get paid.

One StreamElements staffer told Bussey the company would post something the following day, but didn’t say what. No official statement has come out at the time of this writing.

Bussey’s practical advice for creators right now is to request any pending SEPay funds and download your alert files locally, just in case. Others are also reminding users to do the same.

Streamlabs, a direct competitor (and a company Bussey has a disclosed partnership with), published a guide on migrating from StreamElements to their platform. It covers alert boxes, chatbot settings, loyalty points, and tip pages, though custom widgets apparently need to be rebuilt from scratch.

Whether this is a real shutdown or a bad rumor that got way out of hand, StreamElements hasn’t said a word.
