Forza Horizon 6 is currently failing to launch for a large number of players on Steam, though Forza Support has officially acknowledged the issue.

There are various threads on Reddit and posts on X where the game either gives a black screen or just crashes entirely. Others report that they were asked to wait until May 19 to actually play the game, despite buying the early access pass. However, some note that Premium Advanced Access isn’t available at the same time for everyone on all platforms.

Forza Horizon not working.

The game appears fundamentally broken for many Steam users. After hitting ‘Play,’ users note that the game momentarily behaves like it’s booting up, but eventually fails to launch. Basic workarounds such as updating graphics drivers, restarting the PC, validating unpacked game files, etc., don’t seem to help.

Workarounds not helping.

Fortunately, Forza Horizon’s developers are aware of these problems. Through a post on X, they acknowledged the problem, stating that it’s under investigation; updates will be shared soon. You can read the entire post below.

The replies to this post are also full of complaints, with one user reporting a “Load Failed” error. A reply suggests that updating the Xbox app and running Forza through the updated app might help. Some others have posted about issues with the HDR implementation.

While players await an official fix, there are various workarounds you can try:

  1. Disable Networking, delete the saved data from C:/XboxGames, re-enable networking, and then restart the game, as stated by @LavaVex on X.
  2. Close the RivaTuner Statistics Server, as suggested by @JasurbekNo1 on X. One user has confirmed in the replies that it helps.
  3. Alt+Tab to exit the game and relaunch it.
  4. Turn off HAGS from Windows Display-Graphic Settings, as posted in a Reddit comment.
  5. Run the game as an Administrator.

We’ll update the article in case there are any further developments.
