YouTube creators who spent the morning unable to upload videos are now facing a new roadblock. The platform claims to have fixed a widespread upload glitch, but users say their videos are now freezing entirely during the automated copyright check process.
A Google employee posted an official update on the YouTube Community forums earlier today. They marked the upload issue as fixed and told users things should be back to normal.
That is not quite true. While video files are actually making it onto YouTube servers again, the backend processing is breaking down.
We are also running into the same problem on our YouTube account at the moment. The upload bar completes, and then the system just sits there stuck on “Checks still running”.
In one thread on Reddit, a user noted that while uploading works normally again, the copyright checking step refuses to finish even after 30 minutes of processing.
Another commenter replied that they were finally able to upload but could not publish the video. They watched the system constantly checking for copyright for 20 minutes with no end in sight.
Trying to force a fix does not seem to work. The same commenter said they deleted their first upload and tried again, only to hit the exact same wall.
Even in another thread, a user said their uploads finally worked. But the relief was short-lived as they mentioned that the copyright check was still completely stuck for them.
It looks like an internal update to the copyright checking system did not go smoothly.
Google has yet to acknowledge this issue. But a fix will likely go live sooner rather than later. So just keep an eye out on the progress.
