Google Gemini is currently failing to process prompts in its Pro and Thinking modes due to a persistent “Error 1099” message. The bug is completely locking users out of complex queries.

Some users report dealing with the outage for over two weeks across multiple accounts and devices. So it’s clearly a problem that needs immediate fixing.

The core issue seems tied to how Gemini handles session states on the backend. According to a Product Expert, the 1099 error specifically strikes during the analysis phase of Pro and Thinking models. It is a server conflict rather than a local browser issue.

Basic queries still work for now if you stick to the standard Gemini Flash model. But selecting the Pro tier basically guarantees a broken chat.

People using Notebooks are seeing the exact same thing. The OP mentioned in one thread that standard chats outside of a Notebook run perfectly fine with the exact same prompts. Inside the Notebook, the AI breaks almost immediately.

As you might expect, paying users are frustrated since they are essentially paying for a service that’s currently broken. One user noted that they have been forced to go back to doing their daily work manually.

People are consistently running into this context overflow bug across desktop browsers and mobile platforms. It does not seem to matter which OS you are on.

That said, a couple of product experts in Google’s support forums have claimed that the company is already aware of the issue and is actively looking into a fix. There is no ETA for a fix though.

If you are stuck, the official advice for now is to switch the model selector over to Gemini Flash. You can also try a hard browser refresh to clear the current session token or boot up an incognito window.
