Crunchyroll, Amazon, Netflix … Gone!

Every streaming platform it was legally available to watch 86 is just unavailable. What is happening?
86 was so loved why would you just let it go? I really am so sad about this.
I own the DVDs, yes. But recommending is harder now.😔
Update 12/05/26 – 09:09 am (IST): Reports online suggest that it’s not just Crunchyroll where 86 Eighty-Six has been removed. The series has disappeared from Netflix and Amazon too, at least in some regions.
Despite the widespread chatter around it, we have seen any official statements regarding the removal.
Original article published on May 12, 2026, follows:
Anime 86 Eighty-Six appears to have vanished from Crunchyroll in the US, with multiple users reporting today that the show disappeared from the platform mid-watch, without any warning.
Reports started surfacing on Reddit and X earlier today. One user said they got an error while watching it, refreshed the page, and the anime was simply gone from both search and their saved list. Several others said the same thing, with some noting it vanished mid-episode.
The problem is that, normally, when Crunchyroll loses the rights to a title, the series page still exists but shows the content as unavailable. Right now, the 86 Eighty-Six URL returns a full 404 error. That’s not what a standard licensing expiry usually looks like, at least based on how the platform has handled removals before.
Some users on Reddit pointed this out, noting that other titles removed for licensing reasons still have their pages up, just locked. The clean 404 is what pushed a few people toward thinking this might be a backend or catalog issue rather than a deliberate removal.
That said, licensing is still very much on the table. One user on X wrote that the show “has been removed from USA Crunchyroll catalogue,” while another called it “suspicious as f**k.”
Reddit user Fernando_CV said: “I literally started watching it a few days ago, I know it’s licensing, but still.”
One Redditor noted that the show still seems accessible through Crunchyroll’s add-on on Prime Video for some users, and the series page is indexed in certain regional versions of the site. So this may not be a global removal, or it may just be a partial rollout of whatever is happening.
Crunchyroll has not said anything about it publicly as of writing. No removal notice, no announcement, nothing.
We’ll keep an eye out for any further developments and will update the post accordingly.
