AnimeKai, an anime piracy website, appears to have shut down. If you open the website, a message from a developer reads “Sorry, our data center has been burned…”
The site says that it can no longer keep the files required to stream Anime online. Posts pointing out this issue on Reddit blew up, sparking widespread discussion. Some users on Reddit speculated that the site could reappear under another domain.

A Reddit comment claimed AnimeKai is gone for good. Separately, a message shared on the site’s Discord server also suggested the shutdown may be permanent.
The shutdown was apparently sudden, and the moderators were not prepared as well. The announcement warns that any other “AnimeKai” site you see on the web is fake. You can read a snippet of the message from the image below. AnimeKai claims that the Anime server would still remain.

Interestingly, the timing of this shutdown coincides with a recent Almere data center fire, and a lot of services went cold because of it, as pointed out by a comment from u/pimmetje_paniek. The original message on the website doesn’t specify which data center has “burned,” and what exactly happened, so we’re left speculating for now.

As expected, users of the website are disappointed with the shutdown. Others lament about how AnimeKai was their “backup” site, and now that’s lost as well. The website ran for two years without issues, amassing several frequent visitors as a result, and the shutdown has left these users without access to the site.
Other discussions on Reddit talk about how these piracy websites don’t host by themselves, but just provide the front-end (often filled with ads) to host from a separate service.
It looks like there’s a crackdown on piracy websites that stream Anime, because sites like HiAnime and 9anime have also recently shut down.
For now, AnimeKai appears to be offline, and the exact cause remains unconfirmed beyond the site’s brief message and posts shared on Discord.
