SuperGrok subscribers are strongly dissatisfied with Grok Imagine’s video generation caps. Higher-resolution 720p videos are hitting rate limits much sooner than users expected. This isn’t the experience people paid for.

Many users report exhausting their 720p quota after only 10-20 generations, including failed attempts. After the rate limit kicks in, Grok downgrades the resolution of the videos to a 480p output.

A lot of people are considering cancelling their SuperGrok subscriptions because 480p videos are pretty poor in quality and sharpness. It’s a major downgrade from 720p. Frustrated users who hit the limit after just 20 videos called the restrictions “insane,” since hundreds of videos were possible at 480p.

Others report that moderated videos that fail to generate also appear to count toward the rate limit, suggesting backend processing may still consume quota. Higher resolution videos and longer clips (such as 10-second videos) consume quotas significantly faster since they need more computational power. Failed video generations also seem to be added to the tally.

Reddit comments about the issue.

Before these new caps set in, users were able to generate over 40 videos in 720p resolution. Overall, a lot of people have noticed that the cap for 720p videos is worse than before.

xAI didn’t publicly acknowledge this issue at the time of writing, and it’s unclear how long the new rate limits will remain. AI companies commonly impose generation limits to manage GPU demand and infrastructure costs, though xAI hasn’t explained the reasoning behind these specific restrictions.

The company hasn’t even clarified the exact restrictions that apply to each video quality tier, and some people speculate that the limits may even vary by region, though this hasn’t been confirmed.

Interestingly, I’ve also found some reports on Reddit from 3 months ago that describe the same issue. I’m hoping xAI addresses this issue soon, since higher-resolution videos are a key reason why people pay for SuperGrok in the first place.
