A faulty update is causing Microsoft Teams to continuously crash right on launch today, leaving corporate users entirely locked out of the desktop client.
Reports suggest that the bug traps the app in an endless opening and closing sequence. It appears heavily tied to version 26106.1906.4665.7308, which often hits users on the Early Access or Targeted release rings.
Microsoft officially confirmed the outage under the advisory tracking number TM1301921. According to the company, a recent standard service update contains a code issue that is directly causing the client to fail.
The issue appears to have started a few hours ago and is affecting users worldwide. Over in a Microsoft Teams subreddit thread, the OP noted they were seeing about ten different machines cycling through opening and closing the client very rapidly.
A commenter in a sysadmin thread said Teams dying was simply not on their list of things to do today. Another user pointed out their Windows logs showed a specific failure to load application settings with the error code -2147024893.
Apart from this, reports of Teams down and stuck in a crash loop have started coming in on X. So it looks like a pretty bad day for IT help desks everywhere.
If you look around, complaints suggest the desktop app is basically useless right now. You can find more reports here, here, and here.
Microsoft is currently rolling back a portion of the service to a previously stable version to stop the bleeding. They are pulling telemetry data to guide their troubleshooting and validate their theories on the root cause.
For now, there is a very simple workaround. Just use your browser.
