Arrowhead has scheduled a hotfix for May 6, 2026, that will largely revert the recent changes made to the Hive Guard enemy in Helldivers 2. The decision comes shortly after the implementation of Patch 6.2.1 in late April 2026, which altered the enemy’s armor and health values.

While player feedback played a role, the revert also addresses a technical error in Patch 6.2.1 where armor values were incorrectly swapped between the Hive Guard’s legs and claws.

Post on Reddit about the new changes.

In the April 28 patch, developers increased the armor on the Hive Guard’s head and front legs from medium to heavy penetration requirements. They also decreased armor on the body, reduced the main body health, and more. All these adjustments combined affected the gameplay.

Multiple threads on Reddit expressed dissatisfaction with the new changes, because this impacts loadout diversity. Particularly, the effectiveness of medium-penetration weapons and automated sentries. Posts highlighted that Hive Guards have become a lot more challenging to deal with.

Bad hive guard update

Following this, Arrowhead officially announced the hotfix via a post on X. The update will restore elements closer to the pre-update state.

The main body armor will go up from 1 to 2, and health will go back to 500, from 375. They’ve also decreased head armor from 4 to 3, and have adjusted front legs and claws accordingly; claims were made that the armor values were previously incorrectly swapped.

The announcement also indicated that a review was ongoing about player feedback on durability damage.

X posts talking about the changes.

Some players were satisfied with the change. It’s good to see a game company actually listen to the community for once, and make changes that suit the majority of players better.

However, it’s impossible to satisfy everyone. There are a lot of people who liked the changes made on the April 28 update, and are now disappointed that things are being reverted. A lot of people are actually more annoyed at the playerbase for constantly complaining and closing themselves off to any sort of changes. There are now calls to unrevert the changes, though it’s unlikely now.

One player ran a poll on Reddit, where a majority of people (around 50%) voted that they liked the changes. It looks like Arrowhead’s own surveys said otherwise, explaining the decision to revert the changes.

The controversy surrounding the Hive Guard is just one part of a rocky week for Patch 6.2.1, which also introduced significant crashing issues on Linux, Steam Deck, and Windows.
