Character AI is dealing with a massive website outage right now. Users are staring at endless loading screens and bots that simply refuse to reply.
According to the flood of complaints on the Character AI subreddit, the web version of the platform is completely broken. From what I was able to gather, the main feed is not refreshing, and existing chats will not load new messages.
A few people pointed out that the mobile app still seems to work fine. Desktop and iPad users are out of luck. The site just hangs endlessly if you try to start a conversation.
Some users even worry the developers are intentionally breaking the website to force everyone onto the mobile app. That is likely just frustration talking after all that’s been happening.
This crash happened right in the middle of a massive community meltdown. As we reported earlier today, the company is retiring beloved legacy chat models like Soft Launch and Roar.
People were already threatening to cancel their paid subscriptions over the forced switch to the newer PipSqueak 2 and DeepSqueak models. The new engines are unpopular because they tend to over-explain things and write unnatural dialogue.
Some angry players are openly accusing the developers of insane self-sabotaging as the subreddit fills up with server status memes and cancellation threats.
There is no official status update or ETA for a fix from the team yet. For now, jumping over to the phone app is your best bet to get things working.
