Original article published on April 21, 2026, follows:
Android users are encountering a frustrating bug in the X app. Tapping a shared X link no longer takes them to the actual post. It leaves people stuck on their timeline or whatever profile they were looking at last, instead of opening the intended content.
According to dozens of complaints piling up across Reddit and X itself, the standard troubleshooting steps do not work at all. People are clearing caches, rebooting phones, and reinstalling the app to no avail.
After checking the reports, I tried replicating the issue on my end. It worked fine for a bit. However, upon extended testing, I could replicate it. Tapping on the link did not lead to the post and was stuck on the homepage or on the post that was open previously.
Interestingly, when exiting the app by removing it from recents and then tapping the link, it was leading me directly to the correct post. Still, it’s not really an ideal workaround because you can just hit the back button and go back to where you left off.
It does not matter if the link comes from a Discord chat or a post on Threads. The X app just opens to whatever you were looking at last.
One Pixel user mentioned the problem started right after installing the latest Android system update on Saturday. But the issue is so widespread across different devices that it is very likely a problem with the X app itself rather than an OS bug.
At least one user mentioned that they’re now forcing links to open in their mobile browser instead. You can do this by digging into your Android app settings. Just find X, go to the default apps section, and turn off the toggle that allows it to open supported links.
There’s no official acknowledgment about the bug yet, but X’s product head recently joked on X about taking a few days off for a wedding, only to come back to the app being on fire.

Lesson learned: Never have friends
We’ll keep an eye out for any further developments and will update the article accordingly.
