ChatGPT users are claiming OpenAI has started rolling out a new image model, with fresh posts on Reddit and X pointing to cleaner text rendering and better-looking results. There is still no official OpenAI announcement confirming GPT Image V2, so for now, take the information with a grain of salt.
One repost from r/ChatGPT on r/singularity picked up attention after users saw the AI-generated picture that mimics a breaking news feed with an anchor and the text claiming that GPT-Image-2 is out. The image looks realistic enough at first glance, which is why many believe that it can only be the new model.
The replies were mixed. Some said they already had access, some said they were only seeing it on desktop, and others flatly asked for a source because OpenAI had not published anything official.
A lot of the claims so far are based on the outputs themselves. People are pointing to sharper details, stronger prompt following, and text that looks much better than what ChatGPT image generation usually produces.
So when users suddenly start posting images with cleaner text and more polished results, it is not hard to see why speculation is picking up again.
This did not come out of nowhere either. Earlier this month, AI enthusiasts spotted mystery image models on testing platforms and began tying them to OpenAI, largely because of how well they handled text and complex prompts. Separate Reddit posts around that time also pointed to a possible preview build that some users thought was a next-gen ChatGPT image model.
Over on X, one user claimed GPT Image v2 “seems to have rolled out to most users now,” while another said it was hitting all ChatGPT accounts.
One thing worth noting is that OpenAI has already told developers that DALL·E will be shut down on May 12, 2026, which means the company is clearly pushing users toward the GPT-image line.
Still, there is a difference between users noticing better outputs and OpenAI actually launching GPT-Image-2. So we’ll have to wait for an official announcement for more details.
I’ll be honest, in my brief testing, I do see noticeable improvements with the output. So I’m inclined to believe that the new model might indeed be handling image generations already. P.S. The hero/featured image on this article was also generated with ChatGPT as part of this test.
In the meantime, do let us know if you’ve noticed any significant improvements with image generation on ChatGPT in the comments below.
