Google Search Console users flooded with odd impressions emails for long-verified properties

It looks like Google sent out a strange batch of emails today to a lot of Search Console users, and nobody quite knows why.

The email says something along the lines of: “Google systems confirm that on April 12, 2026 we started collecting Google Search impressions for your website in Search Console.” Sounds normal enough, except people are getting this for properties that have been verified and running for years.

SEO pro Gagan Ghotra spotted it first on X and asked if others were seeing the same thing.

Turns out, a lot of them were. Some got one email, some got hit with a bunch of them back to back across all their properties. Over on Reddit’s SEO community, people are reporting the same thing.

From what I can tell, the email itself looks like the standard welcome message you’d get for a brand-new site, with links to your top pages, top queries, and the errors report. Nothing alarming in the email itself, just the fact that it went out at all for old, established properties.

My best guess is this is a bug on Google’s end. Most people in the thread seem to think so too.

It’s worth mentioning that Google already confirmed a separate Search Console issue earlier this month: a logging error that had been incorrectly inflating impression data since May 2025. Search Engine Land covered it at the time. 

The good news is I’m not seeing anyone report actual data loss or properties losing verification. So for now, it seems like a misfired email, not a real problem. But Google hasn’t said anything about it yet.
