For a few days now, Microsoft Rewards users have been complaining about the “Read Outlook Emails” offer, noting that it wasn’t tracking regardless of what they did. The daily “Read 3 emails” task was stuck at 0/3 for many, and no amount of troubleshooting seemed to move it.

Reports about this have been filling up in the r/MicrosoftRewards subreddit for a few days now, with users flagging missing streak credit, points not crediting, and the Rewards button going missing from Outlook altogether.

Naturally, most users had already tried the generic troubleshooting steps like marking emails unread, switching to Edge, using the mobile app, and trying Outlook in a mobile browser, but none of this helped.

While there was no official clarification about what was going on for a while, the company’s support team has finally come up with an explanation. Responding to complaints via email, the company noted that the offer has been “temporarily disabled” and suggested they explore other check-in offers.

One Redditor shared a screenshot of the email. Check it out below:

Still, not everyone is taking that at face value. One commenter said: “It’s broken, and rather than have to pay the missing points, they claim they did it on purpose.”

At least one user says Microsoft compensated them with 1,100 points and puzzle pieces to cover the lost activity. That seems to be the exception, though. Most just got the form response and nothing else.

For now, the offer remains down, and Microsoft hasn’t said when — or whether — it’s coming back.
