The CEO of Roblox, David Baszucki, has publicly responded to allegations that Roblox is not monitoring games properly. He emphasized that Roblox does not tolerate re-enactments of real-world tragic events. Content involving acts of terror or school shootings violates Roblox policies, and they’re usually removed before they’re published.

Response from the CEO of Roblox.

However, sometimes content ends up slipping through. David claimed bad actors are dealt with really quickly, and a vast majority of players never encounter such content. The statement also includes further clarification on Roblox’s safety policies. Despite this statement, many people remain disappointed, since several inappropriate games continue to exist on the platform. Recently, there was also news that Roblox is removing Community Walls.

A post on X from Shawn Ryan shows footage of a game, which recreates a school shooting with actual names in it. Prior to its removal, the game had no real security restrictions and was playable for anyone. Roblox officially responded to this post, claiming that the game was removed within 5 minutes of it being reported for inappropriate content. According to them, users who found the game didn’t find it through organic discovery either. Furthermore, everyone involved was apparently reported to law enforcement.

Criticism of Roblox moderation.

While some people accept this response, others claim that 5 minutes is too long. Ruben Sim, a critic on X, notes that the game in the clip had been played thousands of times before it was moderated, and that there are too many reuploads. There are some people who are against the moderation of internet creativity, who don’t want Roblox to moderate such content in the first place.

People who accept the response from Roblox appear tired of constant criticsm and hate, and they claim Roblox has done everything they could. Spreading misinformation about Roblox is apparently hurting creators financially as well.

To add insult to injury, the Los Angeles county has sued Roblox, accusing the platform of failing to protect children from predators. A documentary titled “Dangerous Games: Investigating Roblox” from Chris Hansen further exposes several safety issues with the game. All in all, it seems like a PR nightmare for Roblox right now. The tool Roblox was using for age verification- Persona, has also been accused of surveillace. We’ve covered everything about that here.
