Gemini completely broke search, stuck in a loop.

A few Google TV Streamer 4K owners say the moment they try to use the microphone for voice search, they get pulled into a “Meet Gemini for TV” screen that does not let them move forward. They report that tapping either “Turn On” or “No, Thanks” just drops them back into the same prompt the next time they try voice.
In one report on r/googlehome, the OP says they upgraded from a Chromecast dongle to the newer Streamer 4K and quickly hit this loop while trying to use the mic. They add they tried resets and clearing caches, but nothing broke the cycle.
The annoying part here is that the popup seems to block basic search flows, not just a “new feature” tour. Over on r/GoogleTV, another user describes a brand-new device where search is “completely broken” because the Gemini prompt keeps taking over. They even shared a video that you can watch below:
Buried in the Reddit replies is a workaround that multiple people claim helped: uninstall updates to the Google TV app. One commenter says it worked for them, and a couple of others replied that it fixed the loop on their side too. Another user says the fix can be temporary because the device may update again later and bring Gemini back.
If you are wondering why this is even popping up, Google’s own Google TV Help page positions Gemini for TV as the upgraded assistant for finding movies and shows, getting recommendations, and answering general questions.
Google also says Gemini for TV has specific eligibility rules, including availability only in the United States or Canada (at least for now) and only for adult profiles, not kids’ profiles. It also notes there is no simple on/off switch, and one way to turn it off is removing the device from Google Home (which should revert you to Google Assistant).
For now, Google has not posted a public fix for this specific “Meet Gemini for TV” loop, but the official GoogleNestCommunity account did point affected users toward Google Nest support via phone or chat.
