ChatGPT Plus subscribers are complaining that a key piece of transparency just vanished from their chats. The small label that used to confirm which model answered a prompt is no longer showing up for many users.

A Reddit thread on r/ChatGPT highlights the problem, with the original poster saying they pay for Plus but can’t tell anymore whether ChatGPT is actually using the model they selected or defaulting to Auto. They’re not alone. Multiple commenters say they noticed the same change on their accounts around the same time.

People who subscribe to Plus often do it because they want access to specific models like GPT-4.1 or older versions for particular tasks. When the “model used” label disappears, there’s no way to double-check what ran, which defeats part of the point of paying in the first place. One user flat-out said they won’t renew because of it.

Some people also mention that the retry and regenerate options disappeared alongside the label, which suggests this could be a bug rather than an intentional removal. But either way, the impact is the same for users who rely on that info.

A separate Reddit post says the model selector vanished from the iOS app, and reinstalling didn’t bring it back. A comment there points to a possible phased UI rollout that might cause temporary glitches, and suggests logging out or restarting as potential fixes.

Android users report similar frustrations in the same threads. One person noticed their chat updated mid-conversation and the last few messages suddenly switched to Auto without any warning.

That said, one commenter claims that moving a chat out of a Project folder restores the “model used” label, but it disappears again when the chat is inside a Project. If true, that points to a UI problem tied to how Projects handle model info.

But all this should be treated as speculation for now until OpenAI confirms any of these changes officially. We’ll update the article if something comes up. Meanwhile, do let us know if you still see the model used details to help us understand whether this is a widespread change or not.
