PlayStation Plus Premium subscribers are running into a frustrating problem that’s making PS3 games impossible to stream on PS5. Users have taken to Reddit report that clicking the Stream button does absolutely nothing when trying to launch classic titles from the PlayStation 3 catalog, despite having active Premium subscriptions and stable internet connections.
The issue appears to specifically target PS3-tagged games while leaving other streamable titles unaffected. One user on the r/PlayStationPlus subreddit explained they platinumed Epic Mickey Rebrushed and wanted to move on to Epic Mickey 2, but the stream button wouldn’t respond at all. They say that they tried the usual fixes like restarting the console, switching to Ethernet, and checking their connection, but nothing worked.
The thing that’s bugging players is that there are no error messages either. The button just sits there, unresponsive, leaving players guessing whether it’s their setup or something on Sony’s end.
Multiple reports from the past few days confirm the problem isn’t isolated. Users trying to stream Fallout New Vegas, God of War 2, various Ratchet & Clank entries, and Ninja Gaiden have all hit the same wall. Some mention they can still stream newer PS4 or PS5 catalog games without trouble, which points to a service issue affecting the PS3 streaming infrastructure rather than cloud streaming as a whole.
The PlayStation Portal is also caught up in this mess, with owners reporting identical behavior when attempting to launch PS3 classics.
I spotted one potential workaround in the comments. If you’ve previously streamed a PS3 game and it appears on your Home Screen or in your collection, launching it from there might still work. But that doesn’t help anyone trying to access a title for the first time, since you can’t add stream-only games to your library without launching them first.
Customer support hasn’t been much help either. One user mentioned chatting with PlayStation support and being told to “try back in 24 hours,” which suggests the company is aware of the problem but hasn’t issued any public acknowledgment yet.
The official PlayStation Network status page currently shows all services running normally, with no mention of streaming disruptions.
So it’s not clear what’s going on here. As usual, we’ll keep an eye out for any further developments and will update the article accordingly.
