Instagram has been busy expanding a feature that started rolling out to US users back in December. Called “Your Algorithm,” it gives you a direct window into what Instagram thinks you’re interested in and lets you tweak those preferences without hunting through buried settings menus.

The feature is now available to English-speaking users in most countries, according to an announcement the company made on X.

The process is pretty simple. Open Instagram and head to your Reels tab. Look for an icon in the top right corner that resembles two lines with hearts on them. Tap that, and you’ll land on a dashboard showing a summary of topics Instagram’s AI has picked up from your recent activity.

You might see categories like “painting,” “horror movies,” “fitness motivation,” or “skateboarding” if those match what you’ve been watching. The app uses your viewing patterns to build this profile, then shows you content based on those interests.

Once you’re inside the “Your Algorithm” panel, you can tell Instagram what you want more of or what you’d rather skip. There’s a section labeled “What you want to see more of” where you can add topics by typing them in or selecting from suggestions. Below that sits “What you want to see less of,” which works the same way. Changes take effect right away, so your Reels feed should start adjusting as you scroll.

I still don’t see the feature on my devices (Android and iOS) despite having the latest versions installed. It’s likely a phased release and should show up for more people over the following days or weeks.

Instagram says this is part of a bigger push to make its recommendation system more transparent. The company plans to bring these controls to Explore and other parts of the app in the coming months. For now, it only works inside the Reels tab.

The feature also lets you share your interest summary to your Story if you want to show friends what Instagram thinks you’re into.

I cover fast-moving stories across apps, online platforms, and everyday tech — phones, wearables, consoles, and whatever else people are fighting with this week. Bugs, rollouts, scams, policy enforcement, and the occasional internet-culture rabbit hole are all fair game. My goal is simple — make confusing tech news readable. When I'm not working, I'm working out or chilling with my dog. Got a tip? You can find me on X @dcubbins.
