If you’ve opened X on your browser today and noticed posts from random accounts, you aren’t alone. A growing number of users are reporting that the platform is aggressively defaulting to the For You feed, regardless of what they were viewing last.

Typically, even if you close or refresh the page, X would respect your preferences and would remain on the tab you last used. But as of the last 24 hours, the site appears to have developed amnesia, resetting to the algorithmic feed every time you refresh the page or open a new tab.

The change is already sparking a backlash. On Reddit, user Yae_Ko didn’t mince words, describing the forced algorithmic feed as “slop and trash” they didn’t ask to see. It forces users to perform a manual click every single session just to see the accounts they actually follow.

The situation looks even grimmer for power users. Reports indicate that X Pro (formerly TweetDeck) is suffering from an even more functional break. According to Reddit user TopoRUS, the “Following” column on X Pro is no longer chronological. Instead, it seems to be populating with “popular” posts or algorithmic suggestions, which effectively breaks the tool’s utility as a real-time news tracker.

There’s even a separate thread discussing the same.

Meanwhile, I’m also seeing a flood of complaints appear on X, with posts about the change coming in every few minutes.

That said, in my testing, the feed sticks to Following on both the Android and iOS app (latest versions). However, it reverts to the For You tab on the desktop (when using any web browser). This behaviour lines up with the current reports online.

We don’t know yet if this is a bug or a deliberate feature. User Am0nimus on Reddit speculated that the glitch arrived alongside a new “X Premium Business” button, suggesting a broader UI update might have inadvertently reset or broken these persistence settings.

For now, there is no official workaround other than clicking the tab manually every time. We are watching to see if X rolls out a patch to restore order, but until then, desktop users are stuck wading through the algorithm first.
