Reddit’s Android app is giving users quite the headache right now. A growing chorus of complaints across multiple subreddits points to a frustrating bug that’s wiping out user preferences every time the app gets closed and reopened.
The issue seems pretty widespread at this point. Users are reporting that their online status keeps flipping back on despite repeatedly turning it off. One frustrated Redditor kicked off a discussion thread about six hours ago, noting how the setting just won’t stick after restarting the app. They’d tried clearing the cache and even switching to an alt account, but nothing worked.

But it gets worse. The bug isn’t just messing with online status. Multiple users in another thread are complaining about the “show mature content” toggle automatically disabling itself, which is particularly annoying for anyone who’s already age-verified and doesn’t want to keep re-enabling NSFW content. One user mentioned they can’t even turn it back on at all.

The problems don’t stop there. Another post detailed how basically every setting’s getting reset. We’re talking theme preferences reverting from dark mode to light, text size changes disappearing, and even privacy settings like hiding posts and showing up in search results flipping back to defaults.

Some users noted that their “allow people to message me” and follower count visibility settings are also getting overridden.
The issue appears isolated to Android devices, with reports coming from users on various phone models, including devices like the Galaxy S24 FE running Android 16. One user in the online status thread mentioned the problem extends to showing all comments regardless of their sorting preferences.
As usual, users have tried the usual troubleshooting steps — clearing cache, logging out and back in, uninstalling and reinstalling the app, even full phone reboots — but nothing’s fixing the issue. Another user in the UK described having to manually adjust their settings every single time they open Reddit, which is getting old fast.
Reddit hasn’t officially acknowledged the bug yet, but given how many people are experiencing identical issues starting around the same time, it looks like something broke in a recent app update.
We’ll keep an eye out for any further developments and will update the article if there’s something to share.
