If you own a third-generation Google Nest Learning Thermostat, chances are you’ve glanced at the wall lately and seen something odd: where the outdoor temperature and forecast used to pop up on the big round screen, there’s now just blank space, a row of dashes, or an error message saying “Can’t get the weather right now” followed by “nest.com/m2.”

You’re not alone, and it’s not your Wi-Fi.

It seems that reports about the problem started popping up a couple of days ago, and we’re still seeing fresh complaints piling up. One Redditor posted that their 3rd-gen unit suddenly refused to show any weather info, even though the thermostat stayed fully connected and controllable from the app. Reboots, router restarts, even swapping networks to a phone hotspot, nothing worked.

Many other users also chimed in, noting that they’re experiencing the same problem. Another user from the UK also posted about the issue, confirming that even resetting the device and their router didn’t help.

People from Canada, Ireland, the Netherlands, and even Romania are all chiming in, saying their units went blind to the weather overnight.

And it’s not just Reddit. Over on the official Google Nest Community forums, threads are popping up too. One user couldn’t change their Farsight settings at all anymore, and another lost access to outside temperature data that their dual-fuel heat pump needs to decide when to kick in the backup heat. A few folks with heat pumps are now worried about surprise gas bills because the system can’t tell if it’s truly freezing outside.

Google support has apparently told one user that it’s a known backend issue and a firmware fix is coming, though nothing shows yet on the public Nest status page.

A lot of owners suspect the massive Cloudflare outage on November 18 knocked something loose on Google’s weather servers that the older 3rd-gen units still rely on.

For now, the thermostat still heats and cools just fine; you just lost that handy glance at whether you need a jacket before heading out. Frustrating, especially in late November.
