It feels like just yesterday we were discussing how xAI was testing highlight stories and rolling out new video features for Android, but the team is already back with another significant update. If you are running the latest version of the Grok app, specifically version 1.0.75, you finally have access to a dedicated home screen widget.
Lara Lu shared the news on X, confirming that this highly requested feature is live. The widget is designed to give you immediate access to the core parts of the experience, offering one-tap shortcuts to Chat, Imagine, and Voice.

It is a handy addition for anyone who uses the AI tool daily and wants to bypass the app drawer to start generating images or asking questions instantly. However, as is often the case with fresh software drops, early feedback suggests the execution has a few rough edges that are already being smoothed out.
Almost immediately after the widget arrived, users started pointing out specific quirks. One user noticed that the Voice button on the widget is a bit temperamental on their Pixel 9 Pro XL. It apparently takes a few attempts to actually trigger the voice module, often just opening the standard chat interface instead. Lara Lu acknowledged the bug right away, stating she identified the cause and that a fix is definitely coming in the next version.

Visual customization is another big deal for Android users, and the current widget size didn’t sit right with everyone. Requests poured in for additional layout options to replace the standard Google search bar, as the current iteration is a bit too chunky for some home screen setups. This feedback was also noted, with a promise that the resizing option will be fixed in the upcoming release.

Beyond the widget, the team is looking at broader improvements to the app experience. There is talk of adding a “read aloud” button for text responses, similar to what is available on the web version. This is officially on the roadmap and would be a massive help for accessibility or just listening to long answers on the go.

This follows other recent quality-of-life improvements we have tracked, such as the upcoming ability to delete AI videos users do not want to keep.
Between these widget tweaks and other upcoming Grok upgrades, the app is maturing rapidly, and the quick acknowledgement of these bugs shows the team is listening closely to user feedback.
