If you’ve fired up Overwatch 2 tonight only to stare at that infuriating “Disconnected by BattleNet Services” message looping over and over, you’re far from alone. Many players, especially those launching through Steam, have been locked out of matches for the past hour or so due to the issue.
Folks on the official Blizzard forums were quick to sound the alarm. One player wrote that they couldn’t connect no matter what, while others chimed in confirming the same issue on Steam.

“Glad it’s not just me lol, must be Steam or servers buggin,” one user posted. Posts kept rolling in minutes apart, from East Coast players on AT&T Fiber to others who noted the game worked fine just a day or two ago.
Over on Reddit’s r/Overwatch subreddit, the story looks identical. Threads popped up asking if the servers were down, complete with screenshots of the error plastered across the screen. “Been trying to join for about 30 mins now,” the original poster in one thread complained, and the comments filled up fast with people saying they thought their accounts were toast at first.

The Steam connection seems to be the common culprit here. Several players reported that switching to the straight BattleNet launcher let them hop right in, even as Steam kept failing to authenticate properly.
“It’s down for Steam users,” one Redditor explained, adding that their spouse was playing fine on BattleNet while they scrambled to download the launcher version. But it’s not totally one-sided— one individual mentioned spotty access on BattleNet too, and friends getting in through Steam without issues. Auto-updates might play a role for those who luck out.
Downdetector lit up with more than 500 reports in a short span, painting a clear picture of a real outage hitting hard. As of now, Blizzard hasn’t dropped an official statement on their support channels or socials, leaving everyone refreshing the forums and hoping for a hotfix soon.
For now, if you’re stuck, try the BattleNet launcher workaround or just kick back and wait it out. Server-side issues are usually fixed within a matter of a few hours.
