Facebook users are running into a frustrating glitch that’s preventing them from leaving comments on posts when using desktop browsers.

Reports suggest that the comment box simply refuses to open, leaving people unable to chime in on their friends’ posts or participate in discussions across the platform. Meanwhile, the mobile app works just fine, which has some users wondering if Meta is deliberately pushing people away from browser-based Facebook. But that’s most likely not the case.

The issue first surfaced in a Reddit thread where user Unlucky-Match-6363 described how the comment box wouldn’t appear on any posts in their Chrome browser, though the mobile app had no issues whatsoever. At first, only the top post in their news feed allowed commenting, but then the feature stopped working entirely.

Dozens of affected users quickly flooded the comments section, confirming they were experiencing the same problem. One Reddit user noted they could only comment on about 10% of posts, while another said they couldn’t even comment on their friends’ posts anymore. The bug appears to affect multiple browsers too, with people reporting identical issues on Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Brave, and LibreWolf.

The timing couldn’t be worse for some users, with one person posting on X about how frustrating it was not being able to thank veteran friends on Veteran’s Day. Another Reddit post from EWF_X29 confirmed the strange behavior, noting that going directly to someone’s personal timeline allowed commenting, but posts in the main news feed were completely locked down.

Interestingly, some users discovered a workaround where they could reply to existing comments but couldn’t post new standalone comments. Some users found that saving a post and then opening it from their saved items would bring back the comment box.

The issue seems particularly frustrating for people who rely on desktop browsers for typing due to physical limitations, as one user mentioned they can’t type extensively on phones without experiencing nerve problems.

At the time of this writing, Meta hasn’t acknowledged the issue publicly. Moreover, this isn’t the first time Facebook has dealt with comment-related problems recently either. Earlier this month, users reported issues with missing comments where existing comments would disappear from view. The platform has also been struggling with a glitch that got rid of the Memories feature for many.

Adding to the chaos, Facebook recently announced they’re removing like and comment buttons from external websites starting February 2026. So essentially, the platform is limiting engagement from external sources.

If you’re troubled by the bug, check out the potential workaround mentioned above and see if it helps. We’ll post an update if and when there’s something new to share.
