X is working on adding in-line YouTube support to the timeline

It seems the folks at xAI are working on a revamped YouTube video-sharing and watching experience on X. An ongoing test in the iOS app shows that YouTube videos play inline, no app-switching required.
Aaron Perris, the sharp-eyed analyst from MacRumors, caught it first last weekend with a quick demo clip that kick-started a lot of chatter. Tap on a thumbnail, and boom, there it is, embedded smooth as butter in the timeline, just like X’s own videos.
You can check out the video yourself for an understanding of how it’ll work:
It’s not fully baked yet, mind you; this is straight-up testing territory. But it hasn’t stopped some top accounts on X from sharing the video. The DogeDesigner was one of them, under which former X CEO, Linda Yaccarino commented, “Game changer.”
No more “hey, check my new vid” teases that bounce users off-platform and tank engagement. Think MrBeast dropping a beast-mode challenge clip, and it unspools right there, racking views without the friction. I feel like that’s a win for both creators and users on X.
This lands at a perfect moment, too, because X isn’t stopping at an enhanced video-watching experience. Enter @Bangers, the shiny new gold-verified account that’s likely going to be all about crowning those timeline firecrackers. Launched quietly in late October, it’s racked up nearly 30,000 followers without really having any posts just yet, apart from the video teaser.

The chatter’s heating up on what @Bangers really means. Jacob C. Edmunds tossed out a theory linking it to Nikita’s talk of rewarding trend-starters, maybe even with payouts for posts that go nuclear.
Monetization Coach doubled down, eyeing it as X’s play to drop $1,000 bonuses on certified “bangers,” flipping the script on how creators chase virality. It’s got that verified glow, too, signaling X’s betting big on surfacing the raw energy that keeps feeds alive.
With these two updates, it’s clear that X wants to make the platform more rewarding for creators. We’ll just have to wait and see how things turn out in the following months. One thing is for certain, it’s a step in the right direction.
