The weekly Friends Quests feature has become a source of frustration for Duolingo users who rely on it to stay connected with learning partners. Following a recent app update, numerous reports have surfaced across Reddit describing problems with the feature, ranging from empty quest tabs to random partner assignments that ignore user preferences.

One particularly frustrated user shared that their Friends Quests tab now displays only a “no friends available” message, despite having followed their girlfriend on the platform for over a year specifically to ensure weekly pairing. The couple had maintained this routine as an important part of their relationship, making the sudden disappearance especially disappointing. Reinstalling the app and restarting their device yielded no results.

Similar complaints quickly emerged from other users, with some noting that the entire Friends Quests section vanished from their interface after 2-3 weeks of unavailability.

In one case, a user reported selecting their partner on Saturday only to have the app reverse the selection without explanation. Meanwhile, multiple other people mentioned being paired with random strangers instead of their regular partners, undermining the feature’s purpose of connecting friends and family members through shared learning goals.

Some users also discovered that Friends Quests now start on Monday and end on Thursday or Friday, disrupting established weekly patterns. Others received prompts to complete lessons for a chance at Friends Quests, yet saw no change after finishing multiple sessions.

Comments from longtime Duolingo subscribers suggest these problems stem from poorly tested A/B experiments. One user with over 300 friends was told they needed more friends to access the feature, while another suspects version incompatibility between accounts running different quest formats.

Several people mentioned losing friend streaks that had lasted nearly a year, with support requests going unanswered. Duolingo has not yet publicly addressed the widespread Friends Quests issues or provided a timeline for fixes.
