Walmart is rolling out a new software update to several recent Onn streaming boxes. Reports from users on Reddit indicate the update is hitting the Onn 4K (2023), Onn 4K Pro (newer SKUs), and Onn 4K Plus, while the original Onn 4K Pro (2021) — which saw its Android TV 14 rollout paused in June after users reported issues — is conspicuously absent from this wave.

On affected Onn units the build being reported on Reddit for the 4K Plus is URO1.250103.055.A2.14238279, and the update advances the Android security patch level from April to August 1, 2025. Although Walmart hasn’t posted an official changelog, community reports suggest the package is focused on security and stability improvements.

It’s important to be precise here: the earlier June pause applied to the 2021 Onn 4K Pro’s Android TV 14 rollout — users experienced performance problems and audio bugs after upgrading — and that paused rollout remains a separate issue. This current distribution is a new update targeted at newer hardware, not a continuation of the paused 2021 Android TV 14 push. In short: the 2021 model that had trouble with Android TV 14 is not included in the August-patched builds rolling out now.

Alongside Walmart’s Onn updates, the Thomson Streaming Box Plus 270 is also receiving an Android TV 14 firmware refresh with the August security patch level. Reported details for the Thomson update list the build as UR01.250103.055.A1.13993330 and a kernel version 5.15.170-android14-11-g00580188c093-ab361, indicating it’s on the same Android TV 14 branch as other vendor updates. Early reports for the Thomson unit don’t show the same level of user complaints as the troubled 2021 Onn rollout.

What this means for owners:

  • If you own a 2023 Onn 4K, a newer Onn 4K Pro, or an Onn 4K Plus, check Settings > System > About > System update — you should see the August 1, 2025 security patch and the new build number rolling out.
  • If you own the Onn 4K Pro (2021), you remain outside this update wave. Owners affected by audio and performance issues after June’s Android TV 14 rollout are still waiting on a targeted fix from Walmart or the device’s upstream partners.

Because deployments are staggered and often regional, user reports in r/AndroidTV subreddit remain the best early indicator of how smoothly these updates behave in the wild. If you install the update, consider sharing your experience on community threads so other owners can get a clearer picture of rollout status and any lingering issues.
