It’s been about a month since the Android Auto team last updated its official Known Issues page, but user complaints haven’t slowed down — especially from Google Pixel owners. While we had earlier reported that Android Auto was failing to properly launch on Pixel 10 devices, there’s finally some good news on that front.

According to the most recent acknowledgment from the Android Auto team on the official support forum, the issue where the car display stayed grey with an Android Auto watermark when connecting a Pixel 10 device has now been fixed.

“Thanks for reporting the issue of the car screen being grey when Pixel 10 phones are connected to Android Auto. We are pleased to report that the team has implemented a fix. Please make sure to update your Android Auto app to the latest version (15.0 or above), which should resolve the issue,” said a member of the Android Auto team.

This confirmation effectively closed one of the most frustrating issues Pixel 10 users have faced since launch, where the phone would be detected by the car system but Android Auto wouldn’t actually start. Users running the latest version (15.0 or higher) should now be in the clear.

Connection & Assistant issues still under investigation

Unfortunately, the fix doesn’t mean all is well in Android Auto land. The team is still investigating several other ongoing problems, many of which have persisted for weeks (or even months).

One active thread involves connection issues between the Pixel 10 and certain car models, such as the Škoda Scala. Users report that while the phone charges normally, attempts to connect to Android Auto crash the Settings app, and the USB defaults back to “charging only.” The Android Auto team has acknowledged the issue and is investigating bug reports submitted through feedback channels.

Another open issue affects Google Assistant voice commands on Android Auto when used with the Pixel 10 series. Several users say the Assistant no longer responds despite microphone permissions being granted. This problem is also under investigation, though no timeline has been provided.

Random disconnections on Pixel phones

Perhaps the most persistent Android Auto problem, though, is the random disconnection bug that’s plagued Pixel owners since last year. First acknowledged back in October 2024, the issue causes Android Auto to drop the connection after a few minutes, even as the phone continues to charge. While the Android Auto team confirmed last year that they were working on it, the lack of a concrete fix a year later is starting to frustrate many Pixel users.

Reports suggest that the issue isn’t limited to the Pixel 9 Pro anymore, with the latest Pixel 10 and other older models also affected. Despite countless user reports, the problem remains a “work in progress.”

For now, users are advised to keep their Android Auto app up to date since fixes often roll out silently through app updates rather than system patches. The latest release (version 15.0 and above) includes the Pixel 10 grey-screen fix and could include under-the-hood improvements for other issues.

We will continue to track these developments closely and report once new updates are confirmed by the Android Auto team.

Tech has been my playground for over a decade. While the Android journey began early, it truly took flight with the revolutionary Lollipop update. Since then, it's been a parade of Android devices (with a sprinkle of iOS), culminating in a mostly happy marriage with Google's smart home ecosystem.
