The Google Pixel 10 series has earned praise for its AI features and design refinements, but like many Pixel releases before it, a few persistent bugs have managed to sneak through. One that has been quietly frustrating users for months involves something as basic as the speakerphone button, and it remains unresolved.
Reports from both Reddit and Google’s community forums indicate that Pixel 10, Pixel 10 Pro XL, and even older Pixel 9 series devices are affected by a recurring issue where the speakerphone toggle in the Phone app becomes laggy or unresponsive during calls. Tapping the speaker icon often results in a noticeable delay, sometimes up to two seconds, before the change takes effect, or the button doesn’t respond at all without repeated presses.
The problem doesn’t seem limited to one software version. Posts date back to May 2025 on Pixel 9 devices and continue through October on Pixel 10 units running both stable Android 16 builds and the latest Android 16 QPR2 Beta 3.2 update. Several users have noted that the issue appears tied to Google’s newer Phone app interface, with performance returning to normal after reverting to an older version of the app.

Interestingly, one Reddit user pointed out that the issue doesn’t appear when triggering the speaker toggle from the call notification instead of the full-screen dialer, suggesting the problem may lie with the app’s new in-call UI. Others have found temporary workarounds, such as double-tapping the speaker icon, switching to landscape mode, or using third-party dialer apps, although these come with their own drawbacks.
Google developers were made aware of the issue in late August when a user filed a report on the official Issue Tracker. However, after requesting additional diagnostic data and receiving no follow-up submissions, the report was closed on October 20 with a “Won’t Fix (Infeasible)” status, citing a lack of actionable information.

The continued appearance of new complaints from Pixel 10 owners suggests the issue remains unresolved despite multiple software and Phone app updates. Given that the bug seems to have carried over from the Pixel 9 generation, this might be a deeper compatibility issue within the Phone app’s interaction with recent Android builds.
For now, the only reliable fix appears to be avoiding the new interface, using the notification toggle instead of the in-call button, or ditching the Google Phone app altogether. While this might seem like a minor inconvenience, for users who rely heavily on speakerphone calls, the lag quickly becomes a daily frustration. As the Pixel 10 and 9 continue to receive updates, we hope Google will finally prioritize a fix for this bug.
