Earlier today, I was checking out Grok Imagine’s abilities to generate videos, and well, it looks like it was bad timing. I kept getting a ‘Network connection error’ and the video generation would stop. It seems I wasn’t alone. Hundreds of reports are popping up on X and Reddit, highlighting the ongoing video generation issues with Grok Imagine.
Some found their progress bars stalling between 1% and 15%, while others watched theirs climb to 70% or even 100% before resetting back to zero without producing any output.
Over on X, posts started rolling in from users wondering if they were the only ones experiencing the glitch. Turns out, they weren’t.
xAI has since acknowledged the situation with an official notice on the Grok homepage, stating they’re working to restore service as quickly as possible.
The Grok account on X also responded to a query about the problem, saying:
Yes, we’re seeing reports of issues with video generation in Grok Imagine today, like processes stalling. The team is investigating and aiming for a quick fix—no ETA yet, but check http://status.x.ai for updates. Images are working fine meanwhile!
The timing is particularly notable given how recently the company rolled out Grok Imagine v0.9, which brought major upgrades, including native audio-video synchronization, faster generation times under 15 seconds, and improved frame rates from 16 FPS to 24 FPS. The update also made the video generation tool free for all users, not just premium subscribers.
That said, this unexpected outage comes just a day after we reported on user complaints about Grok heavily moderating NSFW video generations from uploaded images.
So the team might also be working to address those issues, although that’s just speculation. We’ll keep an eye out for any further details and will update this article if there’s something to share.
