Original article published on October 21, 2025, follows:

UK energy supplier Octopus Energy is facing widespread app problems today, with users across both Android and iOS platforms reporting the mobile application crashes immediately upon opening. The issues began surfacing early this morning and have affected thousands of customers trying to access their energy accounts.

We’re seeing complaints pop up on Reddit and X with frustrated customers sharing their experiences. Many users report the same pattern: the app opens briefly before shutting down completely.

Standard troubleshooting steps like reinstalling the application, clearing cache data, and device restarts haven’t resolved the problem for most affected users.

Several users mentioned missing out on their daily free coffee vouchers, which are typically claimed through the mobile platform early in the morning before supplies run out.

Both Android and iPhone users are experiencing identical symptoms, suggesting the issue stems from server-side problems rather than device-specific bugs. While some users running beta versions report the app functions normally, the majority of standard app installations remain unusable.

Customer complaints span various app features that are now inaccessible, including account balance checks, bill payments, usage monitoring, and electric vehicle charging schedules. The company’s website, however, remains operational. So for the time being, that’s an alternative way for customers to manage their accounts.

It’s unclear whether today’s problems relate to yesterday’s Cloudflare outage, which affected numerous websites and services before being resolved. This could be an entirely separate technical issue affecting Octopus Energy’s mobile infrastructure.

The energy company has yet to release an official statement about the widespread app failures or provide an estimated timeline for when normal service will resume.
