Many Verizon customers are reporting issues with cellular connectivity. The outage, which started around midnight for some subscribers, has left thousands of people stuck on emergency call-only mode.

Downdetector logged over 7,000 reports at peak hours, with Detroit, Grand Rapids, Lansing, Ann Arbor, Chicago, Sterling Heights, Kalamazoo, East Lansing, and Troy reporting the most problems.

“Getting Emergency Calls Only/Searching for Service currently as of about the last 20 mins,” wrote one user on the r/verizon subreddit around an hour after the outage began. The thread quickly filled with dozens of people confirming similar issues.

One Michigan subscriber joked, “I panicked for a minute thinking I forgot about the phone bill,” while another said they “had to leave my house to finish an assignment in the middle of the night to get WiFi.”

According to reports on X, the problems aren’t limited to just phone service. Multiple users mentioned their home internet went down too.

The outage map on Downdetector shows concentrated clusters of reports in Michigan, with scattered issues appearing in Illinois, South Carolina, Kansas, and even Southern California.

I cover fast-moving stories across apps, online platforms, and everyday tech — phones, wearables, consoles, and whatever else people are fighting with this week. Bugs, rollouts, scams, policy enforcement, and the occasional internet-culture rabbit hole are all fair game. My goal is simple — make confusing tech news readable.
