Facebook users are voicing their frustration over a recent redesign of the mobile app’s comment section, with many describing the new interface as confusing and difficult to navigate. The changes, which began rolling out in the past few days, have prompted complaints across multiple platforms.
Take Android users, for starters. One person on Reddit kicked off a discussion saying their app had gone “really weird,” like something out of the last century. The comments are all jammed together, the like button’s been relocated, and it just doesn’t sit right.
Others jumped in, agreeing that the replies lack any real contrast now, and it’s basically text dumped on a white background, which makes reading a chore. They’ve flipped the reactions and like button spots too, so now everyone’s fumbling around relearning the basics. And get this, a lot of the text and options got shrunk down, making the whole thing harder to use.
iOS folks aren’t faring any better. Another Reddit post calls out how the comment UI has bounced around six times in a single month. They ditched the old gray boxes for these connecting lines (threaded replies), kind of like how Reddit handles replies, but it hides the full set of reactions. Sometimes the app can’t even decide and shows both styles at once.
The frustration’s all over Facebook too. In the Baddie Aesthetic group, Kendra Johnson posted, “Facebook fix the comments layout RIGHT NOW! Put it back,” and the replies poured in. People hate how it makes everything look like shouting, or why the thumbs-up is shoved to the right. One even mentioned videos keep playing audio after you close the app.
Similarly, in a post on the Apex Automotor group, one user criticized Facebook for not fixing the “Most relevant” comment sorting issue, and instead just has their programmers spend time moving the like button. That post has garnered over 460 reactions and over 110 comments.
Multiple users in those comments have also pointed out that each time they tap the option to “read more” comments, the app just assumes they want to add a comment and pulls up the keyboard.
On top of the layout mess, there’s weirdness with blocking. In Messenger, blocked contacts are popping up as if they’re not, but tests show they are – messages send but never deliver. One Reddit thread details how it’s dredging up old pain for some, and another explores being blocked on Facebook but not Messenger, calling it a probable glitch. Users figure it’s part of an update, and some are using it to block folks back.
Meta’s quiet so far, but with all this noise, maybe they’ll listen. In the meantime, a few are trying Facebook Lite as a workaround. If your app’s acting up, join the chorus – you’re in good company.
