If you’ve been using Character AI recently, chances are you’ve run into a pretty annoying glitch. Users across multiple Reddit threads have been complaining about a swipe bug that’s making the app almost unusable for some people. When you try to swipe between different AI responses, the message gets cut off or flickers back to an earlier reply, usually the fourth one in the sequence.

One user posted that after taking a full day off from the app, they expected the issue to be resolved when they came back. Instead, the bug was still there, greeting them like an unwelcome friend. The post quickly got traction, with 175 upvotes and dozens of comments from users sharing similar experiences.

What exactly is happening? When users swipe to view alternate AI responses, the selected message either appears cropped or the interface snaps back to a previous response.

Multiple people have described how refreshing the chat or rewinding doesn’t help. Some found temporary workarounds like copying their text and rewinding to an earlier message, or even deleting and reinstalling the app, but these fixes don’t stick.

One frustrated user mentioned submitting two tickets without getting any response, desperately wanting confirmation that the developers knew about the problem. Thankfully, they do. A moderator on the Character AI Discord server confirmed that the team is aware of the issue and there’s a good chance it will be fixed soon, possibly within a day of that announcement.

The Character AI team also posted an official update on Reddit acknowledging the swipe bug and letting users know it’s being investigated.

While waiting for the fix, some users have found that swiping with their finger instead of clicking the arrow button helps avoid triggering the bug in certain cases. It’s not a perfect solution, but it’s something.
