Update (October 07 – 10:05PM IST): It appears Steam is down again, just a few hours after it suffered an outage today. As was the case earlier in the day, there isn’t any official statement, although the unofficial Steam status page does indicate ongoing problems. We are keeping a tab on the situation, and will update this article as and when new info surfaces. Until then, if you have anything to share, feel free to use the comments section below.

Original story (October 07 – 12:20PM IST) follows:

Valve’s gaming platform seems to be experiencing a major disruption today. Steam’s ongoing outage is affecting users across multiple continents, with reports flooding in from North America, Europe, Australia, and Asia.

Downdetector, the service monitoring website, has recorded a spike of over 34,000 user reports during the peak of the disruption.

Players attempting to log into the Steam client are being met with connection errors, while those trying to access the website are encountering crashes, blank pages, or content simply won’t load or download.

Social media is quickly filling with complaints from gamers whose sessions have been abruptly cut short. One streamer laments the timing, noting that Steam went down just as they’d sat down to work on a game review. Another shared a picture showing the Steam client stuck on a download:

Others are reporting being kicked out of multiplayer games mid-session, unable to reconnect as servers struggle under the load.

Reports on Reddit are also piling up.

There’s currently no official statement. But the unofficial Steam status page does indicate an issue with the platform’s services too.

Concurrently, even AWS seems to be undergoing an unexpected outage, if reports on Downdetector are anything to go by. However, the official AWS dashboard hasn’t been updated to reflect the potential disruption, which might also explain Steam’s outage.
