If you’ve been frantically tapping the “Update All” button in the App Store only to watch the loading spinner vanish into thin air, you’re definitely not imagining things. Over the past several hours, many users have been complaining about the problem that’s making batch app updates nearly impossible.

The issue first gained traction on Reddit, where frustrated iPhone owners described having to hammer the update button three or four times per app just to get things moving.

Updated to iOS 26.0.1 and impossible to update apps all at once

One user mentioned needing to update 30 apps, only to find that hitting “Update All” would process just five at a time before stopping dead. Others reported the spinner appearing briefly before reverting back to the “Update” button, forcing them into a tedious game of whack-a-mole with each individual app.

Here’s where things get interesting: while many initially pointed fingers at the iOS 26.0.1 update, the problem isn’t actually tied to that specific version. Several users running iOS 18 builds, including 18.7 and 18.7.1, are experiencing the exact same headache. This suggests the culprit is actually a server-side App Store bug rather than something baked into the operating system update itself.

The good news? At least one user confirmed that a simple device restart fixed the problem completely. It’s worth trying before you resign yourself to updating dozens of apps one by one. However, another user reported that neither signing out of their App Store account nor rebooting made any difference, so your mileage may vary.

For what it’s worth, I couldn’t replicate the bug on an iPhone 16 during testing, and several other users on various devices reported everything working normally.

Apple hasn’t officially acknowledged the problem yet, but with complaints piling up across Reddit, X, and Apple’s own support forums, it’s only a matter of time before the company addresses what’s quickly becoming a widespread annoyance. Until then, keep that restart option in your back pocket.
