Facebook users are encountering a frustrating glitch that’s making their notifications disappear into thin air. The bug appears to have surfaced following recent app updates, leaving people unable to check who liked their posts, commented on their photos, or tagged them in content.
The bug seems to have popped up earlier today itself. After digging through reports about the problem, I noticed that it might be affecting users on the Facebook app for iOS. All the screenshots that I spotted are from iOS devices. However, most users haven’t explicitly mentioned whether they are using the Android or iOS app. So it’s possible that the bug might be affecting users on Android too.
“I just updated my Facebook app and I’m still not getting notifications,” posted one user on Facebook itself, sharing a screen recording that showed the message saying “Notifications aren’t available at the moment.” The video demonstrated repeated attempts to refresh the page, but nothing appeared.
What makes this bug particularly odd is its inconsistency. Some users are seeing completely blank notification screens with no explanation whatsoever. For instance, check this screenshot shared on Reddit:
Others, like the OP on Facebook, are at least getting a somewhat helpful error message that reads “Notifications aren’t available at the moment.” It’s a small consolation, but at least those users know the platform acknowledges something’s wrong rather than just staring at empty space.
One person described deleting and redownloading the entire app, only to find the notifications still missing. That’s the kind of tech support step that usually fixes everything, so when it doesn’t work, you know something’s really broken on the backend.
Interestingly, the bug doesn’t seem to be universal. When testing the Facebook app on both Android and iOS devices, I couldn’t reproduce the problem at all. My notifications loaded just fine, which suggests this might be a server-side issue affecting only certain users or regions.
Facebook hasn’t released an official statement about the glitch yet, though given how widespread the complaints are, their engineers are probably already working on a fix.
